One of the many things that I do is work with a group of horse veterinarians down in Boulder.  We have been watching this herpes situation all week.  In order to not have people freak out unnecessarily, let me say that this neurological form of equine herpes is a mutated strain and is spread by horse to horse contact, ie, sharing a water trough, chewing on a common tie rail, face-to-face contact, sharing grooming tools, etc.  Unless horse owners up here are bringing their horses to shows or boarding them in other barns WITH HORSES THAT WERE EXPOSED to a cutting horse from the Utah show, there is no current LOCAL, GOLD HILL threat from the outbreak.
