Upcoming Mountain Emergency Radio Network Training
The mountain emergency radio network (MERN) is a amateur radio network that has been facilitated by BCARES (Boulder County Amateur Radio Emergency Services) with the intention of helping our mountain communities communicate accurate information in case of an emergency, both within our town limits and among mountain communities.  Having local Gold Hill amateur radio users assures our self-sufficiency in an emergency situation!
The Gold Hill Fire Barn has a new, high-powered repeater installed to make communications in our area feasible and will soon have a permanent generator in place allowing communication even when the electricity in town is out.
To date, there are more than 40 licensed MERN operators across our mountain communities.  The first step in being a part of MERN is taking the FCC license preparation class as well as the exam.  Both times are listed below.
Once you have received your FCC amateur license, you will be given a HAM radio and receive instruction on how to join MERN.  MERN communications practice will be held regularly to assure mountain residents are capable of communicating with one another successfully.

Exam to be given on Monday, October 15th, evening hours
