For safety reasons, please cover up holes on your property

It has happened again recently that a dog fell into a water-filled hole (an old well?) on private property, got trapped and nearly drowned. It is unclear how long the animal was trapped but it was found cold, frightened and exhausted with injured paws from trying to climb out.

Please help keep our wildlife, pets, and children safe by covering up any holes, especially those that fill with water, on your property. Animals and children don’t read ‘no trespassing’ signs and this was not the first case of such an incident. Especially since the fire, previously securely covered hazards might have been exposed. This is in anybody’s interest, especially the property owner’s with regards to liability issues. Thanks for keeping our town safe!
