This Year’s Chipping Grant

Posted on: April 4th, 2012

Gold Hill will apply for the Boulder County Community Chipping Reimbursement Program again this year.  We need to know ASAP if you wish to be included in our grant application, because the application deadline is coming up in about three weeks.  Please indicate your initial interest by replying now to Steffi Wilson (moarla@nullmac.com).

The way it will work is this:  We will negotiate with a well-recommended and competitive chipping contractor to go by appointment to individual properties this spring and/or next fall.    Jobs must be big enough to require at least two hours of chipper time.  If you have just a small job, you can combine with a nearby neighbor to add up to a two-hour job.  (Avoid bark beetle flight times by choosing dates before June 15 or after October 15.)  We will schedule the chipping contractor if you give us a couple of dates that are convenient within that time frame.  You or your helper will stage your slash at your driveway prior to that date.

Why do this?  To be proactive about wildfire mitigation.  To create effective defensible space around your home.  To reduce the scope and intensity of future wildfires. To contribute to forest health.  To enable your fire mitigation dollar to go farther.
