Report from John Sand

The GH Fire Board met Thursday evening, July 21, 2011 at the fire barn/community room. Attending were Dave Sturtz, Darrell McConnell, Leslie Finn, Chris Finn, Ben Blaugrand and John Sand. Absent was Board Chairman Dave Steinman. There was no formal agenda.
Ben reported on a recent  meeting of the Fire District Roundtable that he attended. Six mountain fire districts are working cooperatively to apply for $300K in matching grants for continuing fire mitigation projects. Bob Bundy, U.S. Forest Service, is independently applying for additional grants. Results may be 3-5 years out, but there is a lot of activity underway. Kris Gibson is the point person for Gold Hill.
Leslie presented her AAR (After Action Review) for the fund raising pancake breakfast on the 4th of July.
– there were 586 paid breakfasts, 186 more than the previous record. That doesn’t include the free breakfasts given to the Baptist helpers and the fire fighters.
– the Boot collected $1700, including a $500 donation from one former Gold Hill resident
– sales of Town Meeting t-shirts, aprons, etc. netted $437 for the Fire Department
– food sales netted $3064
– grand total raised for the Fire Department: $5201
Leslie also discussed what went well, what didn’t. Steps will be taken next year to better serve 500 people in a timely, efficient manner. She recommended that the department purchase a fifth griddle, since only the Baptist use of their griddle enabled us to meet the unexpected demand.
Preparations and procedures for dealing with flood events include additional training and development of a protocol for operations. Because of the recent debris flows resulting from the recent monsoon rains  the Four Mile Department has been called out frequently.
