What is a precinct caucus?

In March of every even-numbered year, Colorado’s main political parties (the Democratic and Republican Parties) hold neighborhood meetings called precinct caucuses. These meetings are for voters who belong to the party (affiliated voters). At a caucus, people help choose delegates who will go to bigger meetings at the county and state level called assemblies. Those delegates later help decide which candidates (at the county, state, and congressional level) will be on the party’s ballot for the June primary election and what ideas the party supports, also known as a platform. Precinct caucuses are open to the public and happen all over the state.
