Now that summer is over and autumn is upon us it is time to get out and view the magnificent foliage that this season brings. It is also time to say goodbye to many of our friends who are summer residents and are now leaving us. It was great to see them at many of our events during the past few months. We look forward to their return next summer.

The NAS board is already discussing plans for this year’s Holiday Mountain Market and Silent Auction. I ask you to consider helping with this fun event. It is one of our most important fundraisers. The funds raised are essential to support the continuation of the Senior and Mountain Midlife programs. Serene and the board cannot successfully put on this event without help from many volunteers. CU Buffs Football vs AZ State

The homecoming game of CU Buffs football generates a lot of excitement and we get to be a
part of it! Join us as the CU Buffaloes conquer the Arizona State Sun Devils on Saturday, October 15. Game time was still to be determined at press time. The evening prior presents the pep band on Pearl Street.

We have negotiated special ticket pricing so we can invite all our friends at the low cost of $25 per ticket and offer mountain seniors an additional $5 discount to $20, thanks to Boulder County’s All Age Well funding. All reservations and payments are due to NAS, with a list naming each person attending in your party and whether they are under or over age 60, by Saturday, October 8. Favorite Arias, Scenes, and Champagne

Boulder Opera Company kicks off the 2016-2017 season on Saturday, October 15, with a gala opening concert (7:30pm) and silent auction (7:00pm) at the Pine Street Church, 1237 Pine, Boulder. The concert showcases local vocal talent and an ensemble orchestra performing favorite operatic

scenes and arias by Strauss, Puccini, Verdi, Donizetti, and Mozart. Those who attended Carmen with us this summer have already experienced the level of talent of this company. We offer the $25 tickets FREE to mountain seniors who sign up by Wednesday, October 12.

Aspen Leaf Community Pancake Breakfast & Raffle

The leaves have promised to hold back a few yellows for the first weekend in October so our guests
can enjoy them en route to our community pancake breakfast Saturday & Sunday, October 1&2, 8am—11am, at the Nederland Community Center. We need all hands on deck to cover all stations, both days, especially Sunday. Please consider volunteering to help for a couple of hours, especially on Sunday. We have loads of fun together serving neighbors and raising funds that support seniors.

Please help us spread the word of welcome to everyone and let them know that the menu is more than fluffy pancakes—eggs, sausage, yogurt, granola, fruit, orange juice, and coffee round out the menu—all for only $5 over age 60 (requested contribution), $8 Adult, $4 kids under 12. Our 50-50 cash split raffle to be drawn Wed, October 5, offers chances at $1 each or 6 for $5. Just drop in—no reservations required! Thank you!

Luncheon Program

Amendment 69: We plan to host two speakers for this event—a supporter and an opponent of the Colorado Care Amendment 69 on our ballots next month. Learn the pros and cons, Wednesday, October 5.

Let’s come laugh at ourselves in a revue of songs designed to capture our experiences as we grow through this phase of our lives. Boulder’s Dinner Theater (BDT Stage) hosts “Mid-Life 2” and we plan to attend on Thursday, November 10, 6:15pm, if we have 12 people sign up and pay by Wednesday, October 12. Thanks to All Age Well funds from Boulder County, we offer a discount from the usual $54 price to $39, which includes tax, tip, and soft beverage with the dinner and show. Mountain MidLife & Wine Tasting

the half hour later time by popular request. Menu on page 3. A hike follows at 10:00am—location to be determined by group present and leader. Watch for November breakfast to be a week early (11/5) to allow space for the 9 Health Fair on the second Saturday. No breakfast in December.

Dozens of us danced international folk dances after our dinner last month—thanks for staying for all the fun! At our next dinner, we will enjoy more time to get to know one another. Sign up now to join us on Friday, October 21. Please note the earlier date; we are dining on Third Fridays during the Fourth Quarter. Doors open at 5:00pm; meal at 5:30pm. See menu on p.3. Swing Dancers meet at the Avalon Ballroom in Boulder on third and fifth Saturdays at 7pm for a lesson and/or 8pm-11pm for live swing music and a room filled with dance partners. Join us on Saturday, October 15.

Wine Tasters! Welcomes everyone to a wine tasting event on Friday, October 28 at 6:30pm at a private home as listed on our Meetup site—or call for reservations and directions. Please bring an Italian wine, your own glass, and an appetizer if you would like.

New Options Counselor & Medicare

My name is Colleen Sinclair and I started with the Boulder County Area Agency on Aging (BCAAA) towards the end of July of this year. I will be covering the areas of Nederland, Gold Hill, Ward, Jamestown, Lyons, Niwot and many of the canyons in between. As a resident of Jamestown I witnessed some of the needs specific to the seniors in these isolated areas and wanted to be a part of this agency with a long history of public service in my area.

Prior to joining BCAAA, I worked in Boulder as a case manager for older adults and have good experience in helping clients to access resources and navigate difficult or complicated end-of-life decisions, as well as referring them to wellness events to help them stay active and thrive. Although I am still learning the ropes up here, I am happy to answer your questions and help you apply for various services or just work through decisions you may want to discuss with an objective ear. I look forward to working with each of you and will find time to come join you for another delicious lunch.

Medicare Open Enrollment is upon us. Between October 15 and December 7 you have the opportunity to make changes to your Part C (Medicare Advantage) and Part D (Prescription Drug) Plans. What sorts of changes might you want to consider during this period?
