Mountain MidLife Friends –

Come join the fun! We still have several openings needing help at our pancake breakfast this weekend, October 1 & 2. If you can offer us a couple of hours, especially Sunday, we most appreciate it! Please leave a message at 303-258-0799 to let us know how you can help. All volunteers and guests, please enter through the south center doors just outside the dining room.

Aspen Leaf Community Pancake Breakfast & Raffle

 

The leaves have promised to hold back a few yellows for the first weekend in October so our guests can enjoy them en route to our community pancake breakfast Saturday & Sunday, October 1&2, 8am—11am, at the Nederland Community Center. We need all hands on deck to cover all stations, both days, especially Sunday. Please consider volunteering to help for a couple of hours, especially on Sunday. We have loads of fun together serving neighbors and raising funds that support seniors.

 

Please help us spread the word of welcome to everyone and let them know that the menu is more than fluffy pancakes—eggs, sausage, yogurt, granola, fruit, orange juice, and coffee round out the menu—all for only $5 over age 60 (requested contribution), $8 Adult, $4 kids under 12. Our 50-50 cash split raffle to be drawn Wednesday, October 5, offers chances at $1 each or 6 for $5. Just drop in—no reservations required! Thank you!

 

Luncheon Program

 

Amendment 69: We planned to host two speakers for this event—a supporter and an opponent of the Colorado Care Amendment 69 on our ballots next month. We would like to present the pros and cons at lunch on Wednesday, October 5. A local supporter has offered to present the “for” position, but our speaker for the “against” side did not come through. Any well-informed friends out there who can share the facts of this position with us, especially regarding how the amendment would affect seniors?

CU Buffs Football vs AZ State

 

The homecoming game of CU Buffs football generates a lot of excitement and we get to be a part of it! Join us as the CU Buffaloes conquer the Arizona State Sun Devils on Saturday, October 15.  Game time was still to be determined at press time. The evening prior presents the pep band on Pearl Street.

 

We have negotiated special ticket pricing so we can invite all our friends at the low cost of $25 per ticket and offer mountain seniors an additional $5 discount to $20, thanks to Boulder County’s All Age Well funding. All reservations and payments are due to NAS, with a list naming each person attending in your party and whether they are under or over age 60, by Saturday, October 8. Favorite Arias, Scenes, and Champagne

 

Boulder Opera Company kicks off the 2016-2017 season on Saturday, October 15, with a gala opening concert (7:30pm) and silent auction (7:00pm) at the Pine Street Church, 1237 Pine, Boulder. The concert showcases local vocal talent and an ensemble orchestra performing favorite operatic scenes and arias by Strauss, Puccini, Verdi, Donizetti, and Mozart. Those who attended Carmen with us this summer have already experienced the level of talent of this company. We offer the $25 tickets FREE to mountain seniors who sign up by Wednesday, October 12.
Swing Dance

Swing Dancers meet at the Avalon Ballroom in Boulder on third and fifth Saturdays at 7pm for a lesson or 8pm-11pm for live swing music and a room filled with prospective dance partners. Cost includes live band and snacks – $15 cash or check at the door. Join us on Saturday, October 15. BIGfoot Hike

BIGfoot Memorial Hike, led by Lucy Stroock and Jeannette Smith is a short, easy hike. Meet at the Nederland Community Center lower east door at 10:00am. (Note: one hour later than summer hikes.) Please wear appropriate footwear and bring all-weather gear, water, and hiking poles if needed.

Featured Event! Mountain MidLife Dinner
Thank you to the dozens of participants who made our after-dinner folk dance last month so much fun! Sign up now to join us on Friday, October 21. Note that we dine on Third Fridays for the Fourth Quarter. The basic menu is: Argentinian Beef (Peppers & Onions), Sauteed Vegetables, Polenta, Fruit – and always some additional nice surprise! Doors open at 5:00pm with meal served at 5:30pm. Please volunteer to check folks in at the door.

Foot Care Nurse
Our RN specialist in foot care is mountain resident Debbie Neal. She offers a local clinic once a month, typically on fourth Wednesdays (with some variance during holiday months). This month’s date is Wednesday, October 26. Call our office to sign up for an appointment.

Mountain MidLife Wine Tasters!

Wine Tasters! welcomes everyone to a wine tasting event on Friday, October 28 at 6:30pm at a private home as listed on our Meetup site—or call for reservations and directions. Please bring an Italian wine, your own glass, and an appetizer if you would like.

Mid-Life 2 at BDT Stage

 

Let’s come laugh at ourselves in a revue of songs designed to capture our experiences as we grow through this phase of our lives. Boulder’s Dinner Theater (BDT Stage) hosts “Mid-Life 2” and we plan to attend on Thursday, November 10, 6:15pm, if we have 12 people sign up and pay by Wednesday, October 12. Thanks to All Age Well funds from Boulder County, we offer a discount from the usual $54 price to $39, which includes tax, tip, and soft beverage with the dinner and show. The Nutcracker

The Boulder Ballet is making available to us 8 tickets to the dress rehearsal of The Nutcracker at Macky Auditorium in Boulder on Wednesday, November 23. We need to commit to the tickets by Friday, October 28, so please let us know now if you are interested in these tickets.Priority is given to mountain residents over age 60.

Holiday Mountain Market

 

Preparations have begun for the enormously popular annual community event on the first weekend of December. Half of our booth spaces are already sold. Please contact us to join our production team in any of the following roles: Vendor Coordinator, Market Layout, Entertainment Manager, Promotion/Publicity, Santa Photos, Silent Auction—Manager or Solicitations or Data Management or Display.
