Featured Event! MidLife Breakfast & Hike

 The Second Saturday Breakfast returns to its usual date this month. Please join us on Saturday, August 13, for an 8:30am meal together; doors open at 8:00am. Menu is:Southern Breakfast: Biscuits ‘n’ Gravy (Veg or Sausage), Grits, Eggs, Granola, Yogurt, Fruit. Cost is $5 requested contribution over age 60, $8 Under Age 60. A volunteer greeter at the door would be much appreciated – please volunteer.

A hike follows at 10:00am—location to be determined by group present and volunteer leader. Please wear appropriate hiking footwear and bring rain gear and water.

BIGfoot Hike

 Lucy Stroock and Jeannette Smith continue the tradition begun by BIGfoot Dave Felkley, leading hikes for seniors on the third Friday of the month at 9:00am – next is Friday, August 19. Meet at the lower level east door of the Nederland Community Center a little before 9:00am to carpool to the trailhead. Hikes will be a little slower and more gentle to accommodate those recovering from injuries – but still on mountain terrain in beautiful scenery! Hike location announced at the meeting place. Please wear appropriate hiking footwear and bring rain gear and water.

 

Featured Event!  NAS 20th Anniversary Celebration

Come celebrate our 20 years of continuous success serving older adults with a multitude of wellness support programs. In that time, in addition to serving tens of thousands of nutritious social meals, we have offered fitness, hiking, pickleball, swimming/hot pool, tai chi, balance training, mindfulness meditation, foot care, life stories writing, writing skills, bridge and games groups, Chautauqua historical presentations, and over a thousand educational speakers, museum trips, concerts, theater, opera, and other cultural outings. Our retrospective photo display board will remind us of a few of them!

Everyone is invited to appreciate our community’s older adults at our celebration at Chipeta Park Pavilion on Saturday, August 20, at Noon for a picnic and games afternoon. We will supply the burgers, brats, and soft beverages. We ask our guests to bring a side dish/salad/dessert to share and a favorite lawn or table game to play in the afternoon. Please join us! Carmen—Free in the Park

 Let’s get together at one of the most popular and enticing operas of all time, Bizet’s Carmen. Boulder Opera Company performs with live orchestral ensemble outdoors at the Boulder Bandshell at Canyon and Broadway on Saturday, August 20, 6:00pm. Free, no RSVP required. Meet in the center section.

 3rd Saturday Swing Dance

Dance to a live band Saturday, August 20, at The Avalon Ballroom at Arapahoe and 63rd in Boulder – 7pm lesson and 8pm-11pm music. No partner needed (come to the lesson to check out who is around your level, beginning to advanced). Dress ranges casual/comfy to nicer – bring non-marking shoes for the nice wood dance floor. Cost is $15 at the door.

 

Featured Event! Mountain MidLife Dinner & Strangebyrds

 Special Event!  The lively local folk/rock duo Strangebyrds (Ray Smithland & Cari Minor – http://strangebyrds.com/) performs for us 6:30pm-7:30pm after dinner. Please join us on Friday, August 26, for the last dinner prepared by Chef Kim Culver as we bid her a fond farewell and wish her the best in her new endeavors. 
Doors open at 5:00pm; meal at 5:30pm. Menu is: Garlic Herb Chicken, Citrus Quinoa, Greek Salad, WW Bread, Almond Lemon Cake with Yogurt/Fruit. Cost is $5 requested contribution over age 60, $9 Under Age 60. Volunteers to greet and check-in at the door (show up at 4:50pm) are always needed – please sign up to help.
