Aerial Seeding and Mulching Update, April 16, 2012

Last Wednesday’s lightning storm hit the Kmax helicopter and damaged the rotors. A second helicopter, the Bell UH-1 Huey (aka “Lucy”), arrived last Friday to continue aerial mulching. Unfortunately, the Huey can only carry half the weight of the Kmax helicopter. Therefore, the project is going to take longer than expected. Mountain West Helicopters is waiting for new rotors to be shipped for the Kmax helicopter. Hopefully, it will be up and running by Friday or Saturday of this week. The Huey helicopter is also louder than the Kmax, so apologies for the additional noise. Once the Kmax is flying again, both helicopters will fly until the project is finished, as we would like to finish as soon as possible. Flights will continue every day that weather allows, including Saturday and Sunday. The majority of the aerial seeding has been finished, with 15% of the project remaining to be seeded. A little over 1/3 of the mulching (about 37%) has been completed.

Mulch deliveries are almost done. A few more trucks are expected to finish the delivery of wood shreds through the Town of Gold Hill. Deliveries are dependent on ground conditions for truck deliveries from the wood shredding site.
