Fourmile Canyon Flood Recovery Project – Paving of south section to take place Friday through Sunday, Oct. 4 to 6

Milling of the southern section of the project has commenced between the Poorman Fire Station and 1033 Fourmile Canyon Drive (southern terminus of the project). All of the asphalt should be removed by the end of the day tomorrow. After removal, crews will begin reconditioning the ground below the road surface in preparation for paving work. From now through Thursday, Oct. 3, the road will be gravel, so please use caution when traveling through this area. Expect delays for milling and subgrade work as one lane of the road will be closed during these operations. The road will be returned to two lanes at the end of each workday. Below is a photo of the current roadway conditions in the south section of the project:

Starting at 8 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 4, paving crews will begin applying the first layer of asphalt in the southern work zone. Work will continue through the weekend to take advantage of an open SH 119/Boulder Canyon Drive. Please consider using Poorman Road to avoid paving operations and delays if you live above the Poorman Fire Station. Flaggers will be used to guide travelers safely around paving operations. Crews will work from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 4, 5, and 6. I apologize for the weekend work and extended hours, but it is the only time we can haul loads of asphalt unobstructed through Boulder Canyon. The schedule for the second and final layer of asphalt in this section has not yet been determined. We will try to complete this operation during normal working hours, if possible. 

In the northern section, retaining wall work continues at multiple locations. Drilling has finished at the first two walls above Logan Mill Road and crews are now working on excavating between the beams in order to continue wall construction. The next four walls up the hill are either receiving their stone veneer or the last of the concrete needed to form the actual wall. Lawrence will be focusing a majority of their operation in the southern section over the next two weeks in order to complete the roadway in that area, so work on the seventh and final wall is unlikely to start until mid-October.

The next few weeks are going to be busy in the southern section and the road will be in less than optimal driving conditions, so please use caution when moving through the area.
