Dear Mountain Residents Affected by the Fourmile Canyon Fire,

It has been my absolute pleasure to get to know and become directly involved in each of the communities affected by the Fourmile Canyon Fire.  Now, more than two years after the fire, it has become clear that it is time for the human service side of long term recovery to wind down.  To that end, Foothills United Way will no longer be working on the recovery effort specifically as it relates to the fire.  However, the good news is, I have accepted a permanent position here at Foothills United Way as Mountain Resource Coordinator.

After two years of focusing on fire recovery, it is clear that we need to grow with our mountain communities and start to think about the bigger picture of human service needs and support.  Our job now is to listen to the needs of our mountain residents.  Leaning on the amazing relationships we have built over the last two years, we intend to continue to have a presence in the mountains and help connect the dots between the human services currently being offered, to those who are not accessing these services, as well as taking into consideration what needs to be done to fill in the gaps.

Now more than ever our mountain communities west of Boulder are closer to one another as we recognize how much support we can offer in the wake of a large disaster.   As a result of the community leaders of each of our mountain towns coming together monthly since the fire (InterMountain Alliance), we can now say that every mountain town has begun a community based emergency preparedness plan boasting great participation rates amongst residents.

Slowly the bouldermoutainresources.org website will be transitioning as well.  The insurance preparedness information and Fourmile Discount information will still be accessible while the rest of the website will focus on current initiatives taking place in the mountain communities relating to human service needs and community based emergency preparedness.
