SUMMARY:Grant Gray Celebration of Life
DESCRIPTION:Grant Gray: 2 Dec. 1941 – 9 June 2023 \nA celebration of life will be held in Gold Hill\, CO\, at the Gold Hill Inn\, on October 2nd from 3:00pm to 6:00pm. \nA long-time resident of Gold Hill CO and Marble Canyon AZ\, Grant Gray\, recently passed away.  He was fully engaged in life until his last few weeks.  Grant was in the midst of installing a large solar array on his property in Arizona\, helped by his lifelong friends.  Grant was also fixing the pool\, playing with his dog Che\, working on a project for a company called SpecOps and making sure Mary\, his beloved wife of 37 years\, was happy and loved. \n  \nBorn in Denver CO\, Grant moved to Gold Hill in the late 1960s bartending at the Gold Hill Inn while attending The University of Colorado.  He loved Gold Hill second only to the Grand Canyon\, where he worked part time for Moki Mac River expeditions. Grant’s 40-year white water rafting career was spent taking customers and friends through the Grand Canyon\, often serenading them with his guitar.  Grant’s other career was as a weather radar engineer\, mostly for the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR).  He designed and helped build many weather radar systems and extensively traveled the world on weather research projects\, the final one was in Taiwan last year 2022. \n  \nGrant experienced some breathing problems which resulted in a short hospital stay in May.  He had an appointment with his cardiologist in June and was admitted to the hospital in St. George UT on June 8th.  Grant died in the morning on June 9th of complications resulting in heart failure. \n  \nGrant was a renaissance man.  He loved family\, friends\, physics\, flying\, white water rafting\, world travel\, the Grand Canyon\, and playing & listening to flamenco guitar.  Grant and Mary’s family includes lots of brothers\, sisters\, brother-in-law\, sisters-in-law\, nieces\, nephews\, and many cousins; he loved them all. He was a man of science who listened carefully and learned from everyone.  Grant’s kind heart and generosity made him an extraordinary person who loved life and lived it to the fullest. He will be forever in our hearts. \n  \nIn lieu of flowers please bring thoughts\, stories and/or photos of Grant.

SUMMARY:SUNSET TRAIL RUNNING FESTIVAl\, SUNDAY\, AUGUST 20
DESCRIPTION:SUNSET TRAIL RUNNING FESTIVAl\, SUNDAY\, AUGUST 20\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin us Sunday August 20th\, for the Sunset Trail Running Festival in Gold Hill\, Colorado. There will be a 28K (17.4M)\, 12K (7.7M)\, 5K and Kids 1K trail race\, that starts and finishes in the main street of Gold Hill at the Gold Hill Inn\, and is run in part on the National Forest Service Trails.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Sunset Trail Running Festival\, offers a scenic tour of Boulder County and runners will enjoy varied terrain of dirt roads and trails\, running through Ponderosa Pine and Aspen Forests\, while taking in amazing views on this challenging course. The 28K course\, heads South down to Salina\, and then West along Fourmile Canyon Dr. to the historic town of Sunset. From there\, runners will head North\, up the the Old Railroad Grade\, which is now known as the Switzerland Trail\, and back to Gold Hill. The 12K course heads West along Gold Hill Rd to the famous Mount Alto Picnic area and back. \nAfter the race\, celebrate your accomplishment with your family\, friends\, and fellow participants at our after race party. We will have food\, beer garden and music! \n“PEOPLE SEEING THE BEAUTY OF THIS VALLEY WILL WANT TO STAY\, AND THEIR STAYING WILL BE THE UNDOING OF THE BEAUTY” – CHIEF NIWOT \nWHY THE NAME “SUNSET”?\nNear the turn of the 20th century\, the Switzerland Trail was the major source of bulk transportation in the area\, carrying supplies and tourists to mining camps and towns in the front range\, ore from the myriad mines to a few centralized mills\, and refined metal down to Boulder for transport to the rest of the nation. A federal ore assay office\, was built at the turn of the 20th century and was located near the community of Wall Street\, Colorado\, at the intersection of the Switzerland Trail route with Fourmile Canyon. “Sunset” was an important branch of the Denver\, Boulder and Western Railroad\, with a train stop there\, and at the time\, was a bustling community\, driven by the presence of an ore mill and the railroad.  \nDON’T MISS OUT ON ONE OF THE FEW TRAIL RACES IN BOULDER COUNTY \nBOULDER WATERSHED COLLECTIVE AND FIRE DISTRICT\nThe Boulder Watershed Collective (BWC)\, in partnership with fire districts and many other local\, state and federal partners\, are working to increase the resilience of our forests and communities through strategic and multi-objective projects that prioritize community safety\, protection of clean drinking water sources\, wildlife habitat and watershed health. \nThe BWC’s mission\, is to cultivate partnerships\, promote community stewardship\, and revitalize social and ecological systems within the Boulder Creek watershed and beyond. We work to create resilient watersheds where landscapes and communities thrive. Our work is guided by our core values which include fostering trusted relationships\, empowering environmental stewardship\, cultivating collaboration\, promoting intersectional environmentalism and embodying integrity and inspiring action. \nALL funds raised from the Sunset Trail Running Festival\, will support the collaborative efforts of local communities working to protect the forests we all love\, and to create more resilient\, fire adapted communities. \nWant to make a donation to the Boulder Watershed Collective? SUMMARY:2023 Spring Up
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, June 24\, 2023 \n9 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Bluebird Lodge parking lot. \nFor all within the Town Meeting boundaries \nDIVERSION is the focus again this year.  Boulder County is a great support for our diversion/recycling efforts\, but they are no longer providing any money for trash disposal.  We will be getting one dumpster for trash and we will have to pay for it ($638)\, so we will need to charge (rate sheet at the end).  \nThree Dumpsters will arrive between 8:30 and 9:00 a.m. – 1 for junk/trash (we will need to collect a fee for trash and donations for the diversion stuff)\, one for metal\, one for wood – slash and general wood/lumber as in the past.  Please don’t come with stuff earlier than 9:00.  \n***And\, yes\, please\, we need volunteers to help!*** \nTo volunteer\, please contact me\, Gretchen Diefenderfer\, at gretchend@nullmac.com  (303-442-3847). \nDIVERSION (see http://www.ecocycle.org/charm).  \nMixed rigid plastics (playground stuff\, coolers\, etc.) and Styrofoam  \nTires – no rims. \nElectronics\, small appliances \nAppliances – refrigerators! \nMattresses \nHousehold hazardous waste (HHW) \n            Oil\, Antifreeze \n           Car batteries \n            Latex paint \n  \n        METAL Container – No liquids – No fridges – No tires on rims (just rims are ok!) – No batteries – No paint cans with paint still in them.  We will take fridges and tires this year\, but they have to go in the diversion trucks [there will be one for tires and appliances\, one for HHW\, one for mattresses\, and more for electronics.   Wire fencing and barbed wire are ok \n       WOOD Container – No chemically treated wood including stain or paint – No nails in the wood (although a few seem to be ok\, just not an excessive amount) – No particleboard.  Slash is ok – no longer than 18” (be judicious with this – there is only one dumpster and it can’t take a forest of slash)  \n        TRASH  Containers  – junk – No recyclables!  We need to pay for this and will need to charge for trash. We also request donations for the diversion items.  Please remember that it would be much more expensive to take a truckload to the dump or to Nederland (a carl load taken to Nederland is charged $25 and a small pick up is $40). \n         $5 per large trash bag \n            $20  per car\, van\, or SUV (less for just a few things) \n            $35 per pick-up truck or trailer full \n            $35 – 40 per vehicle with trailer \n Repurposing – We encourage people to bring stuff that others might want.  Be prepared to pick these items up if no one wants them\, or for them to go into the dumpsters.  We will take some stuff down to donate in Boulder\, either to second hand stores or to Resource 2000 – would love volunteers to help with this. \n Any propane bottles must be vented and this means the entire top mechanism must be removed.  Just opening it does not suffice. We made this mistake once and it cost us \nIt’s amazing how much stuff piles up!  This is your chance to clear that stuff out! \nAnd\, yes\, please\, we need volunteers to help –  please contact me\, Gretchen\, at gretchend@nullmac.comor 303-442-3847    THANK YOU!
