Hosted by The Boulder Watershed Collective and in collaboration with T.E.A.M Boulder\, all money raised from the event will be donated to the town of Gold Hill\, and will fund wildfire preparation and response initiatives such as forest restoration\, home hardening\, emergency planning\, land stewardship\, and community resiliency. \nThis event provides an opportunity for the Front Range trail community\, to show its support for small mountain town communities that live with a high risk of disruption and destruction from wildfire\, while providing visitors with access to their unique character\, beauty\, and the surrounding landscapes. \nRACE DETAILS \nRunners can choose between a 28K (17.4M)\, 12K (7.7M)\, 5K\, or Kids 1K trail race. All distances start and finish on the main street of Gold Hill at the Gold Hill Inn\, and the longer distances are run\, in part\, on the National Forest System roads. Runners will enjoy varied terrain of dirt roads and trails through ponderosa pine and aspen forests while taking in amazing views on these challenging courses. \nThe 28K course heads south to Salina\, and then west along Fourmile Canyon Dr to the historic town of Sunset. From there\, runners will head north up the Switzerland Trail and back to Gold Hill. The 12K course heads west along Gold Hill Rd to the famous Mount Alto Picnic area and back into town. \nPOST-RACE \nAfter the race\, celebrate the day with your family\, friends\, and fellow participants at our after race party! We will have food\, drinks\, music\, and a chance to win trail running gear and local goods! \nT-SHIRT \nTo get your FREE T-Shirt\, your must register BEFORE WEDNESDAY JUNE 4. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nREGISTER\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nREMEMBERING THE HISTORY OF SUNSET AND GOLD HILL\nGold Hill is the oldest continuously occupied mining town in Colorado and today is home to around 200 permanent residents. The town was established in 1859 after placer gold was found in the nearby Gold Run Creek and soon became a beacon for economic opportunity as settlers moved west. By the late 1800s\, Boulder was a hub of activity that supported nearby mining operations with the help of a rail line\, The Switzerland Trail\, that wove through and between the canyons and small mining towns west of Boulder.Sunset\, the namesake of this trail running festival\, was once a small\, bustling mining town and a stop on The Switzerland Trail. During the race\, the 28K runners will pass through Sunset around mile 10 before continuing up The Switzerland Trail until they join with the 12K runners at the site of the historic Mount Alto Picnic Area\, a resort destination for train travelers. \nThis more recent history of The Boulder Valley and its historic human-built sites was made possible only by the unlawful and unjust claim of land by white settlers. This theft was in direct opposition to the Fort Laramie Treaty of 1851\, which protected the Arapaho and Cheyenne nations and their land\, and it went against the agreements prospectors made with Chief Niwot\, chief of the Southern Arapaho. \nToday\, there are ample opportunities to honor\, celebrate and learn from the Indigenous Peoples whose homeland we now live\, recreate on\, and travel on\, as well as all of the communities of people\, animals\, and plants that have existed here through time. \nWe hope that through this event\, runners and spectators reflect on and honor this history and acknowledge the ways to live more mindfully within these wildfire resilient landscapes. \nTo learn more about the Indigenous history of The Boulder Valley and the ways you can participate in healing with the land and its People\, there are many resources including those available through Right Relationship Boulder and the Museum of Boulder. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTHE BOULDER WATERSHED COLLECTIVE\nThe Boulder Watershed Collective (BWC)\, in partnership with fire districts and many other local\, state and federal partners\, is working to increase the resilience of our forests and communities through strategic and multi-objective projects that prioritize community safety and adaptation\, protection of clean drinking water sources\, wildlife habitat\, and watershed health. To learn more about their work and mission\, visit The Boulder Watershed Collective’s website.\n \nTo make a donation to BWC\, you can do so – HERE.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nClick the Boulder Watershed logo above and watch a highlight video from our 2023 race.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFacebook\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nInstagram\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWebsite\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEmail\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCopyright © *Troop Events Athlete Management LLC 2018*\, All rights reserved.\nWant to change how you receive these emails?\nYou can update your preferences or unsubscribe from this list.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n

SUMMARY:Mountin' Mountain
DESCRIPTION:Memorial Day Mountin’ Mountain Hike\n \nAll mountain folk are invited to year #27 of the annual and beloved Mountin-Mountain ~10k hike.  It’s our funky mountain version of the larger\, more crowded walk in Boulder that day.\n\n\n\nStart time is 9:30 a.m. on Monday\, May 26\, and the start point is where CR 52 meets the Peak-to Peak. Carpoolers can meet in front of the Inn at 9 a.m.  \n \nFood donations and your camp chairs may be dropped off at the “there’s no SAG wagon this year” site– hosted by David and Maggie — enroute to the start point.  The SAG wagon is in for repairs\, but we’ll meet at the normal place where CR 52 meets the Switzerland Trail.  You’ll probably see a table or two in that area.  Chairs will not be provided\, so drop off your own when you’re en route to the start point.  David and Maggie will transport chairs back to their home at 390 Hill St after the hike.\n \nParticipants walk\, skip\, run or board at their own pace. Be sure to bring plenty of water and layers in the event of inclement weather.  The Mountin’ Mountain will happen rain or shine.  Cuz we’re hardy mountain folk.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nQuestions may be directed to Pam Leland\, Becky Martinek or Maggie Simms.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n

Proposed changes will be presented and discussed on a section-by-section basis. \n  \nLeslie moved we adopt the changes\, Maggie seconded\, and it passed 10-0 \n  \nArticle VII: Amendments     Section B: \nThe proposed Bylaw section(s)\, and the Bylaw section(s) that are intended to be replaced\, must be included with the minutes of the meeting and distributed to the members at least two weeks prior to the next regularly scheduled meeting. \nSection B: Proposed Changes \nProposed additions\, deletions\, or amendments to the bylaws must be included in the meeting minutes of the general membership meeting and distributed to members at least two weeks prior to the next general membership meeting. \n  \nVal moved we adopt the changes\, David seconded and it passed 10-0 \n  \n  \nArticle VII: Amendments     Section C: \nAt the next regularly scheduled meeting\, the sections of the new Bylaws may be adopted by a two-thirds majority of the members of the Gold Hill Town Meeting\, Inc. who are present. Bylaw changes are to be voted on section by section. \nSection C: Proposed Changes \nAt the next general membership meeting\, the proposed amendments to the Bylaws may be adopted by a two-third majority vote of the GHTM\, Inc. members present. \n  \nThis proposed change generated quite a bit of discussion because it eliminates the section by section provision.  Chrissy wanted this because she believes that future amendments she has in mind\, particularly having to do with the way money is managed will need to relate to each other in order to not be in conflict with each other.  The majority\, however expressed that future amendments would need to presented clearly as having to work together and  that the section by section is an important provision to preserve.  We don’t anticipate having to go through this huge number of changes and it should not be that difficult to present changes that don’t conflict.  Maggie wanted to vote to preserve the original bylaw\, but that is out of order.  Virginia moved to approve the changes\, John seconded.  The vote was 3 in favor\, 6 opposed and the change was defeated.  Chrissy proposed changing “regularly scheduled meeting” to general membership meeting.  Abiding by the bylaws\, we can vote on this next meeting. \n  \nArticle VIII: Dissolution \nThis Corporation may be dissolved according to the following procedure: \n  Section A: \nAt regularly scheduled meeting\, where a quorum is present\, dissolution of the corporation may be proposed by a simple majority of those members present. \nSection A: Proposed Changes \nAt a general membership meeting where a quorum is present\, the dissolution of the corporation may be proposed by a simple majority of the members present. \n  \nDave moved we adopt the proposed changes\, Val seconded and it passed 9 – 0. \n  \nArticle VIII: Dissolution      Section B: \nThe proposed dissolution of the corporation must be included with the minutes of the meeting and distributed to the members at least two weeks prior to the next regularly scheduled meeting. \nSection B: Proposed Changes \nThe proposed dissolution of the corporation must be included in the agenda for the general membership meeting and distributed to members at least two weeks prior to the next general membership meeting. \n  \nLeslie moved we adopt proposed changes\, David seconded.  There was a discussion re the agenda vs. the minutes\, but the changes were adopted 7 – 0. \n  \nArticle VIII: Dissolution     Section C: \nAt the next regularly scheduled meeting\, the dissolution of the corporation may be adopted by a two-thirds majority of the members of the Gold Hill Town Meeting\, Inc. who are present. \nSection C: Proposed Changes \nAt the next general membership meeting\, the dissolution of the corporation may be adopted by a three-quarters majority of the members of Gold Hill Town Meeting\, Inc. who are present. \nUpon dissolution of the GHTM\, any remaining funds shall first be used to settle any outstanding bills\, and\, with the approval of the Town Council\, may be spent for the benefit of the town of Gold Hill. \n  \nMichael moved we adopt the changes\, David seconded and the motion passed 9 – 0. \n  \nUpdate on Wildfire Mitigation Festival – Marcus and Dan reported the Festival is planned for June 14 and 15th.  They are trying to get the best vendor for the goats.  Teens\, Inc. will be here for possibly two weeks with weed whackers\, etc.\, – the focus will be on projects in town and possibly some of surrounding area.  Firefighters will operate extra saws\, maybe a chipper\, and we’ll have dumpsters for debris.  They’re hoping to get a band and Smokey the Bear.  Leslie reported she would like to see something fun maybe at the Inn – that a town in Oregon does something like this every year  and has a big potluck and party at the end.  Boyd added that\, in addition to Teens\, Inc. and goats work in the meadow\, they’re looking to extend up farther clearing the area – adding maybe another acre.  The medical team will have a table with the “File of Life” which lists any medical conditions the team may need to know and is magnetized to attach to refrigerators.  They want to cover the entire district with these.  Also looking to revitalize NeighborLink for emergency communications.  All this will be added to the Strategic Plan for the GHFPD.  Trying to do a big thing.  The bottom line is we know the money thing is going to be tight for the next 4 years\, so the town and the fire department will need to step up and create a plan to be self-sustaining. \n         Julian with BWC (Boulder Watershed Coalition) is taking on more responsibilities as Maya is stepping down.        \n         There is still money from the Fuels Mitigation grant – Dan is mainly managing that and will get an email out requesting input on projects.  Mike added that the Val cut from several years ago needs maintenance. \nSunset Trail Running Festival is scheduled for June 22 and the funds generated come to the fire department and the town. \n  \nCommittee Reports – decided to mainly postpone until April meeting. \n  \nAnnouncements – \n  \nPhone List – The phone list is now published\, copies here at the School and at the GH Store – no charge.  Any changes\, email Chrissy. \n  \nGH Seniors – Val reports the second social lunch is this Friday – they’re planning on monthly. \n  \nCommunity Breakfasts – Dan reports these have been every other week and are fun. \n  \nCemetery Committee – David reports they are planning a small project to remove the barbed wire.  John said he’d help – let him know when. \n  \nApril Peak to Peak Community Safety Fair at the Nederland Community Center – Dan and Boyd will go. \n  \nWith that\, a motion was made to adjourn  and passed. \n  \nRespectfully Submitted\, Gretchen Diefenderfer\, Secretary \n  \n  \nADDENDUM re CenturyLink and Power Outages from Dan \n  \nThere is no backup power for the communications switch box in Gold Hill right now.  If power is out for the town\, landline phones and internet service will be out immediately as well.  There is supposed to be a battery backup but Lumen is not supporting it.  If there is a PLANNED power outage for 6 or more hours\, the Fire Chief will take action to try to provide the town with access to  911 service.  For unplanned outages it is pretty much impossible to provide emergency backup equipment in a timely enough manner before the power is usually restored. I have attached information about how to file a complaint with Lumen and the PUC.  The town residents should pursue this avenue to get action. \n  \n  \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Big Power Outage Tuesday March 11
DESCRIPTION:Ray from Sturgeon Electric (720-812-7966) reports “The Big Dog Outage” on Tuesday\, March 11 in all directions from the crossroads.  The whole town is included plus up Sunshine to the Mill\, down Lickskillet to Val’s\, out west to the Switzerland Trail\, and down Fourmile and Dixon Road –  will all be out from 8 am to possibly 4:30.  The good news is that he’s been in touch with Chief Caudill and the plan is to have a generator at the connection box at the crossroads so our telephones will still work.  As before\, they will have flaggers and signs where they’re actually working on particular poles – there may be some (hopefully short) delays. \nAlso\, they will be replace a couple more poles on Main Street at the end of this week\, and there may be short delays and traffic re-routing there\, also the flaggers and signs.
