 High Hazard Projects to Reduce the Risk from Spring Runoff – Status for Week of May 12th

Boulder County has initiated work in many creek corridors to remove hazards from the creeks; work includes high hazard debris removal, stream bank stabilization, and the removal of hazardous homes. The list below includes both work in-progress and work projected to start next week. Please note that project schedules may shift due to several factors, including weather, contractor equipment staging, utility issues, permit status, and Right of Entry permissions from property owners.

Comprehensive Creek Planning Initiative Update

Boulder County’s Comprehensive Creek Planning Initiative (CCP) is helping the county move forward with long-term creek recovery by initiating watershed-level master planning processes throughout the county. Master plans will assist in rebuilding efforts by providing post-flood analysis of flows, facilitating key decisions about creek alignment, re-establishing the 100-year floodplain, and identifying actions for stream restoration and flood risk management. The master planning process will be an open and collaborative effort among public agencies, property owners, ditch companies, stakeholders, and the public.

• Planning Commission Public Hearing– There will be an update on the Comprehensive Creek Planning Initiative at the upcoming Boulder County Planning Commission public hearing. No action requested. Public testimony will be taken.

• St. Vrain Creek- St. Vrain Creek master planning process is beginning. Boulder County has hired consultant Michael Baker Jr., Inc. to complete a master plan for the St. Vrain Creek watershed. Public meetings and other activities will be announced in May 2014. For more information, please see the news release about this project.
• Fourmile Creek– Boulder County has released a Request for Proposals (RFP) for a post-flood master plan study to be conducted on Fourmile Creek. The RFP can be found on the Rocky Mountain Bids website.
• Upper Coal Creek– The Environmental Group is sponsoring the creation of a watershed master plan for upper Coal Creek. The first Community Planning Event for this master plan will be on Thursday, May 29th, from 6pm-9pm at the Coal Creek Canyon Community Center at 31528 HWY. 72, Golden, CO 80403. Roadside debris removal program ending May 21

Residents asked to place debris on the side of the road and contact county for pick-up

Unincorporated Boulder County residents in select hard hit areas (highlighted in yellow on the map) should place debris on the side of the road for pickup no later than Wednesday, May 21 to ensure that they won’t be responsible for disposal logistics and costs. Residents outside of the areas listed are responsible for their own debris disposal.

After moving debris to the roadside, residents should report pile locations to the county for pick-up by completing one of these actions:

• Fill out an online Debris Reporting Form;
• Send an email to debrisresponseteam@nullbouldercounty.org; or,
• Call 720-564-2222.

After contacting the county, a contractor will schedule trips to pick-up locations for debris removal. Failure to place debris on the side of the road and contacting Boulder County for pickup could result in residents needing to pay for the removal of the debris themselves.
