*Forestry Tip of the Day: Don’t miss the Forestry Fair – Sat., Sept. 14 – Nederland
Forestry Tip of the Day: The 3^rd annual Colorado Forestry Fair is an event that you will not want to miss! We know your weekends are busy and if you receive this eNewsletter you have likely already attended one of our past smaller forestry workshops.  However, the upcoming free of charge Forestry Fair, outside Nederland, is the biggest and likely the best outreach event we have ever offered. More than 30 partners/sponsors are coming together to host a day of forestry that is sure to offer something for everyone.

For private forest landowners, a fair highlight will be our forestry equipment demonstration area. Zach Price, County Forester, will show you how to effectively use ropes, pulleys, winches, atvs and small forestry tractors to work smarter, not harder.  After watching the demos and chatting with Zach you will have a much better understanding about how to move logs and slash out of your woods without breaking your back. Simple and cost effective equipment, plus a bit of knowledge, can make it a lot easier to actively manage your backyard forest.

The Forestry Fair is an open house style event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. We encourage you to come early! A few more details… Nederland’s very own Wild Mountain Smokehouse will be selling lunch. Nederland Fire Protection District will have a Fire Truck on-site for you to check out. There will be a tree dropping demonstration. We will have several different forest ecology, bark beetle management and defensible space hikes.  Smokey Bear will make a guest appearance! Plus a whole lot more!

*3^rd Annual Colorado Forestry Fair Event Details – Sept. 14
The Colorado State Forest Service and Boulder County proudly present the 2013 Colorado Forestry Fair!
September 14th- 10:00 am – 2:00 pm
Theme – “Forest Stewardship through Active Management”
• Learn about forest management and wildfire mitigation
• See forestry equipment demonstrations
• Fun kids’ activities including puppet shows and tree seed plantings
• Career exploration and networking in forestry and natural resource management
• Landowners, families, students and anyone interested in forestry are encouraged to attend

Located at the Boulder County Nederland Sort Yard, 291 Ridge Road, Nederland, CO.  This is a free event and is open to the general public. For questions, please email CSFS_ForestryFair@nullmail.colostate.edu

*Community Forestry Sort Yard Fall Schedule – Free Slash and Log Disposal
The Allenspark sort yard is now open for free of charge slash and log disposal. This north county site is open Tues. – Sat., 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. thru Oct. 19. FYI – we will begin accepting currently infested mountain pine beetle logs starting on Tuesday Sept. 17, 2013.

The south county Nederland Sort Yard will reopen on 4 consecutive Fridays and Saturdays, Sept. 20 thru Oct. 12.
