Bears in Gold Hill

Posted on: May 26th, 2011
Early this morning, about 4 am, there was a bear banging on the dumpster at the school.
I think people should be aware that the bears are coming into town now and preventative measures folks can take.
I worry about all the people who have open compost piles in their back yards. I know that one of the preventatives is ammonia as the noses of bears are extremely sensitive. I know one person who has a spray bottle with ammonia/water mix and every night sprays the outside of her car. I would think an open container or a rag soaked in ammonia on or near a compost pile may also deter bears. I really, really, don’t want bears in town.
