Max and I learned on Saturday that our dear friend and former member of the community summer people, Helen Anderson, passed on Friday.  I believe that Helen was 86 or 87.  She and her friend, Ceese (I don’t know how to spell her name, but she passed in 2004, I think), lived in the house across from the Tiltin’ Hilton and then purchased the small cabin that is now the front of Janos and Rebecca Wilder’s home.  Helen and Ceese lived in Chanute, Kansas and for the last year Helen has been in assisted living in Chanute.  Helen was an incredibly well-respected member of Chanute and I dare say that I NEVER met anyone in Chanute who didn’t know Helen, who was a teacher, tennis coach, and a highly-respected guidance counselor in the county schools.  I remember calling Chaute on two occasions to order flowers for Helen and both times, as soon as I mentioned Helen’s name, the voice on the other end of the phone said, “Oh, I’ll make that really special.  Miss Helen was my favorite teacher.”  We will really miss her.

I will have more information regarding her service after Tuesday and will pass it along to anyone who is interested.  Helen, Max and I had some great times in Chanute.  I used to stay with Helen when I was traveling there on business.  We had some terrific talks about old times in Gold Hill.
