County Commissioners Hearing on the Schmidt Property – Tuesday, October 13, 11 a.m. at the County Commissioners Hearing Room

Posted on: September 30th, 2015

Schmidt Property (the property adjacent to our portion of the Meadow)

It was reported in the minutes of the April 13 Town Meeting that “David Brigham has found out that Rick Schmidt and his family are preparing to sell the old Sosnowski property including Rancho Fazoo and the south approximately 1/3 of the Town Meadow (52 acres?). It is not listed yet. Martha (Knapp) added that she thinks they own a small portion of the town cemetery as well. Dave has been talking to Frank Schmidt and has also talked to Open Space to see if they have an interest.

Dave suggested that the Town should consider encouraging Open Space to acquire this property, as the Town doesn’t have the resources. After some discussion, Bear moved that we write a letter strongly supporting this.   Steve (Sherman) Seconded and it passed unanimously. Dave will draft the letter and submit it to Peter and the Council to be signed and sent.”

The next thing we heard was that that this issue would be on the agenda at a Parks and Open Space Advisory Committee meeting! At the POSAC Meeting on Thursday, September 24, 2015, they addressed the proposed purchase of the Schmidt Property. We had a wonderful group of Gold Hillians there who spoke in support of this purchase and the Committee unanimously voted to recommend it to the County Commissioners.

The Board of County Commissioners public hearing will be on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at 11:00AM, at the Commissioners’ Hearing Room, 3rd Floor, Boulder County Courthouse, 1325 Pearl Street, Boulder, CO and we hope people will show up to support this purchase. I will send out the actual agenda when I get it. We can also send letters if we cannot attend.
