Some people around here–visitors or locals–don’t even know about this, even though we are in one of the epicenters for Chronic Wasting Disease. The information on grasses uptaking CWD prions is new.

Can’t be paranoid, but important to at least be informed, have it on our radar.
It’s different from fire and flood, but in the same general “biblical” category, I think  🙂

Per the article, there really are not statistically significant studies on CWD transmission to humans because the incubation period is so long. Three people in the study cited is not statistically significant, so we are all whistling in the dark. In cases like this, for me the Precautionary Principle has to apply.

Studies at the national invasive animals research center in Ft. Collins (I’m sorry I can’t remember the exact title of this government organization) on mountain lions fed CWD deer meat for 13 years have not shown CWD transmission to the lions in the past 13 years or now. Just fyi.
