Applications for low-cost seedling trees are now available.   You can download an application online via Gilpin County Extension (http://www.extension.colostate.edu/gilpin/ or apply via Longmont Conservation District, 9595 Nelson Rd, Box D, Longmont, CO 80501 (303) 776-4034 x3.  An advantage to using Gilpin County Extension is that Gilpin’s later tree-pickup date is better timing for Gold Hill’s higher altitude.

The rules are that you must own at least one acre, use the trees for reforestation, wildlife, windbreaks, or visual screens, and that you can’t sell a live tree.  Seehttp://csfs.colostate.edu/pdfs/08byrgd-www.pdf for color photos and descriptions of  most of the available deciduous and conifer trees.

Order early to get your choices.  Popular species tend to run out.  Payment must accompany your order.  You can order water-absorbing crystals which help your plant keep moisture around it.  Also offered on the form are seedling tree protectors, but call me first (303 447-0634) to get free ones which were generously donated to Gold Hill by Ernie Stiltoe.  The protectors are a defense against grazing animals while the seedlings are young, plus they help you find each tree when you are watering.
