This person wanted to be anonymous, but I do think it’s a good reminder.  We’ve seen the bear, too.

Here in our part of the woods, we have an enormous bear, which you may have already seen. He’s been so good until now.

Last night he/she attacked our dog right in the back yard.  Obviously some kind of threat to elicit that kind of response.
However, our dog is bear/cougar/deer/elk trained, having lived in the wilderness all his life, and backs off when the scent is there.
He’s okay, but beaten up, bloody, and quite aromatic.

If you could consider a reminder to our community to be a bit more watchful and alert about hummingbird feeders that would prevent this from happening again.
It’s a hard year for our bears with less food than usual.  I suspect they might be more territorial about their favorite insect troves in trees.
There are clueless kids, pets and families from out of town that traipse the trails here regularly and frequently and that’s why I’m ratting the bear out.
I don’t want to be a bear tattletale and I certainly want complete anonymity on this one please due to the stand that so many people have here – me being one of them – it’s the bear’s residence, not ours and it’s up to us to live with them by not tempting them with compost and nectar). You could lose good friends over this one.
However, safety first, right?
I’ve informed the immediate neighbors here.  I think a gentle reminder that our forest friends are having a time of it with the food shortage and we shouldn’t tempt them.  A fed bear is a dead bear and fish and game is more into shooting than relocating.

The Wildlife person who came and spoke said there just isn’t anywhere to relocate them – we’re living everywhere in their habitat.
