Xcel Power situation

From Chief Caudill

I just got off a call with ODM and the power situation looks pretty grim.  Xcel is planning a public safety shutoff tomorrow lasting between 2pm and 5pm.  They are still trying to restore power to areas tonight but if they don’t get them restored by the shutoff time tomorrow they will remain off and they will begin inspecting lines before re-energizing.  This could be a slow process.  It is being described as “hours to days.”  I wish I had better details but they just aren’t available.  After the fires that started last public safety shutoff re-energization, they are very worried because environmental conditions are so much worse now than then.  That will cause them to be much more cautious in restoring power this time.

The short story:
Chris Finn will be making sure the communications generator remains fueled until the morning of 3/16.  The station should remain accessible to residents who need to use power outlets for equipment.  I will advise the community via email that only the upstairs will be accessible for power unless we run into a time that sufficient outlets aren’t available for everyone at the same time.  We should have enough propane to continue to run the generator for the duration of this event but we will need to order propane probably at the conclusion.

Xcel said they will try to notify departments when they begin restoring power.  I will pass that information along and we should be ready to respond as quickly as possible to any reported fires should they occur.

This is becoming the norm instead of the exception nowadays.  We will begin formal planning to establish procedures moving forward this season.

Any questions or concerns, please call me.

Thank you for all you do!
