Roads – Love Thy Neighbor

Roads!

Please, please – here is a selection of pleas on Nextdoor from people on Poorman and assorted other dirt roads.  People, we need to slow down, be more neighborly and thoughtful, especially during these times of seemingly endless construction on our dirt roads.

Hello Dear Neighbors, As much as we understand the construction on Fourmile and on Boulder Canyon to be an inconvenience for all, it is us on Poorman Road who are really suffering the consequences. We stand in shock and disbelief at the extent our quiet, little, peaceful corner has become over-run with fast cars and constant noise. I’m sending this plea to our neighbors in the west, like Horton Hears a Who. Please, Please, “We Are Here!” Slow down, drive with courtesy, our lives are being severely impacted. Poorman was never meant to carry and sustain this constant traffic. We are asking you to help us out. Thank You, in advance for your respectful response.

Here’s one from Fourmile

I would agree that the extra traffic is hard on folks that are not used to it but it will also help to remember that many residents of Four Mile have been through a bit more than some of the other inconvenienced communities.

Thinking about what people have been going through for 10 years (fire and flood) would go a long way. People are hanging on by a thread.

Here’s one great response

It is important that we always drive within nodding distance of the speed limit and on our side of the road. This goes for cars, motorcycles, bicycles, skateboards, scooters, whatever. I have started to leave myself an extra 20 minutes to make the 15 minute drive so I am not stressed about being late for wherever I need to be. Thanks for posting. And people, Lee Hill Road is CLOSED TO BICYCLES 24/7! Cars can use the stop light when construction is not active, but bikes are forbidden, period. Yet I see them every day!

And another

We’ve been affected for the entire project duration whereas some have only recently entered into direct impactville. So we’re ALL fraying at the seams, in shades, in our own ways. …all the better, then, to be neighborly!

And here is my response

I would second Lisa above, we should all drive within nodding distance of the speed limit – especially on the dirt roads – ALL the dirt roads. Speeding creates dust, washboard, and DANGER!  Leave a little extra time to enjoy the views, and lower your stress and that of all those who live near the road, pedestrians, bicyclists and other drivers as well as the emergency responders.
