Fall Classic Bocce Tournament

Posted on: September 8th, 2022

The Gold Hill bocce tournament was started in 2001 by Ken and Susan Fernalld. It was great to see both of them yesterday, and for Susan to roll as well. The tournament they started has been a part of Gold Hill summer fun ever since, moving to the new court at Kirby Field in 2014. Thanks to Charles Steinberg and Torkin Wakefield for providing the space for the new venue, and to Ken for his excellent consulting work for us building the new court.   And thanks to the volunteers who set everything up, groomed the court and ran the tournament while I sat on the sidelines on Injured Reserve, especially Dave Sturtz, Michael Albes and Janos Wilder.

Yesterday, September 3, was a perfect day for bocce. In the exciting final match, mother/son team Maggie Simms and Sean Brigham rolled a superb game, holding off a serious challenge from Ben Sturgulewski and Drew Port by a 12-10 margin. Congratulations champs!

There’s still plenty of great weather ahead of us, so feel free to come by and roll a few when the mood strikes.

Roll on!
