Two issues–campfire ban and UW grants

Posted on: April 29th, 2016

Hello GH Town Council, Emergency Prep, and Resiliency Folks,

Here are two timely items from the IMA meeting yesterday. They won’t wait for 2 months til the next town meeting.

ONE
What do you think of ban on non-formal campfires?
Yesterday at the IMA meeting, Amy announced that for obvious reasons, including the rapidly growing homeless population in our local national forest, our regional USFS has proposed a campfire ban outside of all formal campfire rings.

West Mag, Gordon Gulch, west Gold Hill Rd. and above Jamestown were mentioned as sensitive areas. Fires, trash, human excrement, and crime were mentioned as issues.

It was suggested we talk with our fire chiefs and town councils. If the town would like to support this proposal, email/write Sylvia Clark, head of our FS region, to indicate support of the fire ban or lack thereof.      Sylvia Clark <sgclark@nullfs.fed.us>

TWO
Do we as a 501 (c) 3 want to go for a grant?
Foothills United Way Grants: These grants will be open to community groups. The week of May 23 there will be informational meetings on the grants. The grants are offered to meet two concurrent needs, both of which must be in the application: (1) to build social capital (human connections) (2) provide some type of resource–physical, informational, educational, service, etc. The grant amounts can range from $50.00 to $50,000.00  They are one-time grants only. (Amy H. is in charge of this process in her position at FUW.) The grants are open to Boulder and Broomfield counties. She will send more info  on the grant information meetings to be held at the end of the month.
