Speeding in Salina

Posted on: October 29th, 2015

I received the following email from Michelle Grainger in Salina.  I did have to tell her that we also have speeding problems up here, but that I hope it will help to remind people to slow down in our towns with narrow roads – please, think of children, dogs, people who don’t hear well, or even someone who might be distracted, and drive carefully. Thank you for your consideration.

Here is Michelle’s letter:

Several of us, here in Salina, have been working with the County Transportation dept. asking for help with speeders through Salina and the area near the junction.

We know several Salina residents are speeding or going quite fast through Salina and we can go to them directly and ask for them to go more slowly through the concentrated area of Salina (town) but we also know of repeat offenders that live in Gold Hill and the neighborhood south – near the cemetery.

I’m asking you if you can help me get the word out that it is really becoming a problem and we have been told to call the sheriff on the drivers we can get photos of or get the plate numbers of. Of course, I am pretty sure that most know me as the “lady with the dogs that yells at the drivers”.

I think some are not even aware of how fast they are going and how dangerous they are making it for us. Not to mention the dust (no pavement now) it is kicking up.  Some of the younger drivers may not realize the problem, but may change their behavior once they know we have the sheriff’s permission to call about them.

We have been having the speeding problem more since the flood.  We know people are trying to get to work and to town but in the concentrated areas it has been getting worse and worse.

Any of your thoughts and help is greatly (I mean this) appreciated. We are getting to the end of our patience.

Thank you!!
Michelle
