Red Cross Grant

Posted on: August 24th, 2014

When emergencies happen, as we know, phone, cell phone, internet, and roads can go down. The only means of communication we have with each other in greater Gold Hill , among our mountain communities, and with the Office of Emergency Management  is ham radio.

In this regard: Good news!

The Red Cross has just given Gold Hill Town Meeting an Emergency Preparedness grant to cover the cost of our new ham radio repeater ( $1000 toward the estimated maximum amount for the entire project) that will go up on Horsfal Ridge.

This repeater will cover the parts of Gold Hill that could not be reached by ham radio before this.

And it allows us to be in radio communication in emergencies with ham operators in other areas of the mountains, as well as the OEM. This can save lives and reduce trauma.

Thank you, Red Cross!
