Art at the Center Opening Reception and Demos

Nederland Community Center hosts the Opening Reception for the new show featuring eighteen artists this Thursday, June 15. Pick up a brush and learn to paint figures in watercolor with Nancy Sullo (free instruction & materials). Or watch Marilyn Pinaud and Bruce Miller paint with no brushes. Meet the artists whose works grace the walls of the center and fill it with life and color. Or just socialize with a glass of wine and delicious appetizers. This event is one of the classiest events in Nederland and we promise you will meet wonderful friends here!

A requested contribution of $5 provides two beverage tickets. Reservations are not required. Come at 4:30 to allow time to participate in the watercolor demo, visit with dozens of friends and neighbors, and vote for your favorite art by 6:30pm. The event closes at 7:00pm.

Boulder Ballet in the Park

Enjoy the excitement and beauty of a variety of dance styles performed by classically trained artists outdoors at the Boulder Bandshell at 13th and Canyon. Boulder Ballet hosts a free hour-long performance on Sunday, June 18, at 7:00pm. Look for mountain friends arriving early to sit in the center near the front.

NOAA Tour

The National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) offers us a free tour at 1:00pm on Tuesday, June 27, to see the Space Weather Prediction Center, ESRL Global Monitoring Division tracking the carbon dioxide record, National Weather Service Forecast Office, and Science On a Sphere. Meet at the NIST visitor center for high security check-in (bring photo ID), which includes vehicles, no later than 12:30pm. Those wishing to visit the gift shop need to arrive early, as it closes when the tour begins. The

tour may be sold out at press time (we accepted reservations through May 25), but late callers can check

with us at 303-258-0799. We need to turn in all names a week ahead and space is limited. Carpools for those planning lunch in Boulder depart the Nederland Community Center at 10:45am. Sign up in advance for lunch so we know to include you in determining the location.

Featured Event!  Mountain MidLife Dinner & Games

Our favorite way to get together – a delicious social meal and those who enjoy games extend the conversations a little longer over a game. Feel free to bring board games, cards, dominoes or whatever you wish your friends would play with you after the Mountain MidLife dinner, Friday, June 23, 5:00pm, at Nederland Community Center (menu TBD). All age adults welcome.

Please reserve your dinner (menu listed at bottom of email) by Sunday, June 18; $10 Adults under age 60 or $5 requested contribution over age 60 – 303-258-0799 (or reply to this email or at Meetup.com/Mountain-MidLife-Social-Group). If you have special dietary needs not already registered with us, please inform us several days in advance.

Foot Care

Local Registered Nurse Debbie Neal serves mountain older adults with toenail and skin care, review of foot concerns – Wednesday, June 28. By appointment, downtown Nederland, $30, sign up at 303-258-0799

Silent Film w Live Music & Chautauqua Hike

The Chautauqua Summer Silent Film Series kicks off on Wednesday, June 28, at 7:30pm with the classic tale  “The Three Musketeers” (1921), starring Douglas Fairbanks and featuring the Silent Cinema Trio. Set in 1625, young D’Artagnan (Douglas Fairbanks) heads to Paris, his heart set on becoming a musketeer. Soon after his arrival, D’Artagnan meets three of the most respected and feared musketeers, Porthos, Aramis and Athos, and joins them to defend Queen Anne against the devious Cardinal Richelieu.

Starring Colorado native, Douglas Fairbanks, “The Three Musketeers,” is a classic swashbuckling silent film with elaborate costumes, valiant heroes and scheming villains. The film exuberantly embraces the melodramatic absurdities of Alexandre Dumas’ 1844 novel and highlights Fairbanks’ ebullient physicality.

Running time: 119 minutes

Reserve your ticket now and pay by Monday, June 26, to NAS. Tickets are $12. If enough people sign up, we may be able to get a discount (we’ll settle up with you later if we get one). We will try to match up ride offers and requests to try to help everyone get there!

Some of us will hike for an hour on the paths near the theater. Hikers sign up in advance so we know you are coming (303-258-0799). Meet at the box office (west of the theater) at 6:00pm.
