Colorado Gives—and Other Easy Ways to Support NAS

We always recommend shopping locally, but also recognize that many of us shop online for items we cannot find in our local stores. Our families post their wish lists and we enjoy giving what we know they will like. This holiday season, and throughout the year, please consider us while shopping online at Amazon by using https://smile.amazon.com and select Nederland Area Seniors as the charitable organization that will receive a donation from them valued at 1/2% of your purchase—at no cost to you. It’s that easy. Just start with a “smile.”

For our donors and members who prefer to use credit cards, please mark your calendar for Colorado Gives Day on Tuesday, December 6. Donors may set up their contributions any time beginning November 1 at www.COGives.org and set them to launch on 12/6, when a bonus helps us cover the 2% fees. If you prefer to use checks, please mail to us at NAS, PO Box 188, Nederland CO 80466. Thank you for supporting us!

Luncheon Program

Loaner ClosetsArwen Ek of Holistic Homestead shares resources for assistive devices available for lending throughout the Peak to Peak communities – Wednesday, December 7. Call in advance for a lunch reservation – see menus below – or swing by for the presentation around 12:30pm.

Mountain MidLife Book Group

The MML Book Group Holiday Celebration meets on the second Thursday at 6:30pm—Thursday, December 8.  No need to read for this one, but bring a list of books to consider for 2017. See Meetup site (details below) for location or call us – 303-258-0799.

Conversation Cafe

Share wisdom, and learn new ways of interacting with friends old and new. Certified discussion leader Pam Sherman and Lucy Stroock lead the Conversation Café after lunch on Monday, December 12, 1:00pm. We speak for one minute each in response to a prompt question. Join us for lunch at Noon-call 303-258-0799.

Holiday Lunch, Annual Meeting, Raffle, Board Elections

Join us for our annual Holiday Lunch on Wednesday, December 14, featuring a menu of Salmon, Green Peas, Rosemary Roasted Potatoes, and Peach Dessert. Immediately after the meal, we meet for our annual meeting and board election, typically a brief and efficient process, with ballots cast by a quorum of our members. We appreciate member input on board discussion questions. We will also draw the winning ticket for our 50/50 Cash Split Holiday Raffle.

“Member” denotes any age individual who indicates with their financial contribution that they want $20 to be applied to membership (or contacts us to request membership but unable to pay). It is an easy way to support the nonprofit NAS and participate in maintaining the organization. We would like to produce a member directory so friends who meet at our events can contact one another.

BIGfoot Hike

BIGfoot Memorial Hike, led by Lucy Stroock is a short, easy hike on Friday, December 16. Meet at the Nederland Community Center lower east door at 10:00am. This is the last hike Lucy can offer until the summer. Please let us know if you would like to lead these during the winter/spring. Please wear appropriate footwear and bring all-weather gear, water, and hiking poles if needed.

Featured Event! HOLIDAY Mountain MidLife Dinner and Auction

Sign up now to celebrate the holiday season with us on Friday, December 16. We will bring a few items set aside from our Silent Auction this weekend and make them available for bid and purchase. The basic menu is: Barramundi (Fish) w Moroccan spices, Lemon Green Beans/Glazed Carrots, Tabouleh, WW Roll, Raisin Rice Pudding. We include a delicious dish for our vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free friends, but you must register with us in advance to be on the chef’s list for this specialty item, as she makes a limited quantity based on advance reservations. As a reminder, you are always welcome to bring your own wine and beer (don’t forget openers and glasses) to our dinners. Doors open at 5:00pm with meal served at 5:30pm. Please volunteer to check in folks in at the door – a great chance to meet everyone and learn their names.
