Holiday giving to the National Guard that was in Boulder County

Posted on: December 5th, 2014

This is on the agenda for Monday night’s Town Meeting because we on the Town Council thought Gold Hill might like to help out with this project to help the Colorado Army National Guard who provided so much help during our September 2013 Flood.  See the following:

Friends and Family,

September 11th, 2013 began the floods in Boulder County. A call for assistance was made to the Colorado Army National Guard who in turn sent Lieutenant Colonel Mitchell Utterback to respond. He was able to wrangle assets from the active duty Army to aid in the efforts; something that almost never happens. He did Boulder County and the State of Colorado a great service and he continues to serve the Nation by continuing the mission in Afghanistan.

From 2010-2011 I was deployed to the Farah province of Afghanistan with LTC Utterback as my team leader; It was fairly primitive living for sure and care packages from the US were some of the few things that made the mission easier, especially around the holidays when you are away from family.

I will be setting up donation sites at the Jail, 3200 Airport road, and one at Headquarter, 5600 Flatirons. If you wish to make a cash donation, that would also be greatly appreciated to help cover the cost of shipping. I believe the APO flat rate boxes are currently $15-$20; I will check with the post office tomorrow.

Great ideas for donations:

1. Liquid soap/body wash  – water is hard to work with there, so this helps with showering

2. Basic hygiene items – deodorant, shampoo, tooth brushes, tooth paste, floss, hand sanitizer, WET WIPES, foot powder, bug spray, sun screen)

3. Comfort items – Instant coffee, ground coffee, boot socks, sweets, baked goods, DVD’s, books, magazines, Letters or Cards, Kid’s drawings

***anything helps and NOTHING goes to waste***

I would like to have everything packaged up and shipped by December 18th. I was informed the USPS deadline for getting packages to Afghanistan by Christmas is December 3rd, so we will not make that deadline but we can still support these brave souls and bring some holiday cheer.

The shipping address is as follows:

Chaplain

SOJTF-A

Camp Integrity

APO AE 09320

He is a very good friend of mine and has done a lot for us; I’d like to repay the favor and ‘tis the season of giving.
