Ham Radio Training

Posted on: September 15th, 2014

Hello Everyone,

When emergencies happen phone, internet, and even roads go down, as we know all too well. All we have left is ham radio. It played a crucial role in mountain areas which had it.

Gold Hill now has a fantastic local ham radio group, AirLink, which is setting up a well-functioning repeater so we can now talk to each other in an emergency, as well as reaching downtown help. We need more licensed ham radio operators to make our local network successful!

Please sign up to help Gold Hill and environs in an emergency!

The next class will be October 11-12 in Allenspark. Approximately 9 to 3
on October 11 and 10 to 1 Sunday. Taught by the inimitable George Weber of BCARES (Boulder County Amateur Radio Emergency Services, which works with the Sheriff’s Office and OEM) who has taught this, on a volunteer basis, for a few years in the mountains and many more downtown. The licensing test will be October 16 (or you can always go take it downtown).

The class is free. The test costs $15. We can look into compensation for the test. Most people want to purchase their own radios (you can spend about $35. and up), but there may well be some available at no cost.

If you want to take the class, email George Weber to sign up:  grweber47@nullgmail.com

See you there!
