Fall Weed Bulletin

Fall Weed Bulletin.

Well, this drought is good for something. And that is: slowing down the invasive weeds–the plants that have a tendency to take over and create a monoculture stand because they have no natural predators here. Many are looking pretty stressed right now, like the rest of the plants. Grown tall and left unchecked within 30 feet of the house, they are a fire hazard.

If you mitigated in the wet part of the summer, you are being rewarded with having to do much less to do right now. If you didn’t, make sure you pop them into a bag before their seeds fly, and dispose of it.

Our most likely monoculture-creating weeds on the state list up here are cheat grass, leafy spurge, Canada thistle, bindweed, scentless chamomile, now some knapweed, mullein, and others.
