DARK SKY

The Boulder County foothills are losing the dark night sky, and Gold Hill has a growing, noticeable concentration of bright outdoor lighting. The County has strict regulations limiting outdoor lights for new construction, and they’re appropriate for existing homes. Porch lights should be shaded so that their direct light extends only to the edges of their property – driveways and walkways are lighted, but intrusive glare is confined to each property. This is also a courtesy to those who walk in Gold Hill at night, and this town could set an example of community concern for the night sky.

There is a limited supply of high-temperature black paint at the Gold Hill Store, free of charge, for town or subdivision residents who would like to restrict exterior lighting on their properties.
