*Forestry Tip of the Day: Some thoughts on the Flood
Forestry Tip of the Day: In my opinion Boulder County is one of the best places to live in the United States. We have the most beautiful mountains, the best people I have ever met and more recreational opportunities then imaginable. For the past four years I have spent countless hours driving our beautiful canyons, seeing our amazing vistas and visiting with many of you at your lovely mountain homes and forests. We have had countless hours of conversation discussing bark beetles, wildfire mitigation and how to create healthier forests.

It is amazing how in a couple of days everything seems to change. The past few days have been an extremely difficult time for so many of you, the folks that make this place so special to me. I hope everyone is making it through the flooding to the best of their abilities. I know that this flood has impacted just about everyone who reads this eNewsletter and it saddens me to think about the impacts that so many of you are going through right now. I wish everyone the best of luck and look forward to continuing our forestry outreach after our community begins to heal. It has been surreal and amazing to watch the ongoing rescue effort and response to this widespread natural disaster. We will bounce back from this Boulder County and we will be stronger then we were before. Best of luck to everyone in your road to recovery! I can assure you Boulder County is here for you and we will get through this together.

*3rd Annual Colorado Forestry Fair – Postponed
As you likely guessed we had to postpone 2013 Colorado Forestry Fair which was supposed to take place Saturday Sept. 14. But don’t worry; we are planning to reschedule the event for the upcoming Spring 2014.

*Community Forestry Sort Yard Fall Schedule Updates
The Allenspark sort yard is under an emergency closure thru at least Sunday Sept. 22. This closure is due to limited access to the yard for staff and residents and also due to muddy conditions on site. The soonest this north county slash and log disposal site might reopen is Tuesday, Sept. 24. When the site reopens we will now accept currently infested mountain pine beetle logs.

The south county Nederland Sort Yard is currently planned to re-open as scheduled this Friday Sept. 20. It will be open on 4 consecutive Fridays and Saturdays, Sept. 20 thru Oct. 12.

Due to ongoing disaster response our sort yard schedule is subject to change with little warning. Before hauling slash and logs to either sort yard please call our daily operational hotline at 303-678-6368 to confirm operational status.

Cheers,
Ryan
